Chicago Ornithological Society is a registered 501(3)(c) non-profit organization engaged in promoting the appreciation of birds.  We offer education programs, recreational bird watching opportunities, and habitat restoration projects in the Chicago region.

Your donation supports the following efforts:

  • Field Trips: We host field experiences for our members and the general public. Most field trips are free! Our trips allow everyone to learn from some of the best birders in the Chicago area. We also provide field trips focused on beginning birders and in Spanish.

  • Conservation: We strive to be a strong, influential voice in promoting habitat restoration for migratory and resident birds, including actively leading restoration efforts such as the LaBagh Woods Project.

  • Advocacy: We recommend appropriate action, including participating in Park Advisory Councils for parks that provide important bird habitat. COS is a founding member of Bird Conservation Network, a coalition of 21 organizations sharing an interest in the conservation of birds.

  • Education: We educate our members and the general public about birds and threats to their habitat. We host educational workshops taught by experts from around the world. Members also present bird programs for local school groups.

  • Community: We provide a platform for the Chicago birding community to engage both in person and online. We provide free newsletters to anyone that subscribes and our members-only Chicago Birder Magazine that includes special features and birding news.
