This trip is specifically tailored for beginner and novice-level birders!

Join COS for a late-morning bird walk at Washington Park.. This 345-acre hotspot packs diverse habitats including woodland and wetland. We will walk roughly a roughly 1-mile loop around the park’s lagoons in search of Chicago’s wild wonders as the sun sets. Birders of all experience levels and ages are welcome to attend. Loaner binoculars will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Accessibility:

This trip is designed to be a slow-paced, social bird walk to take the time and enjoy the scenery. Total trip distance is approximately 1 mile. Most of the trip will take place on mostly relatively flat asphalt, grass, and natural dirt terrain prone to muddy conditions with recurring occasional trail obstacles including root heave and holes.

Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the field house building. Cell reception is regularly available.

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Loaner binoculars will be available.

TThe exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free lot and street parking is available. Washington Park is accessible by public transit via Buses 2, 3, 4, 15, 55, 59, 192, Red Line at Garfield or 63rd, and Metra ME line at University of Chicago/59th St.
