Join COS for an afternoon bird outing at Baker’s Lake Forest Preserve. The Forest Preserves of Cook County manages the property's central lake, wetlands, and oak savanna that hosts over 200 bird species throughout the year. This hotspot is particularly special for herons, pelicans, and waterfowl. This trip is designed to be a slow-paced, social bird outing. Bring a lawn chair, stool, a friend–or several–and enjoy the scenery. At least one spotting scope will be available for group use.

Leaders: Sammy Cabindol

Pre-registration is required. Please contact Sammy Cabindol (wildlifesammy@gmail.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.

Accessibility:

We will spend the majority of our time sitting stationary at the site’s lake overlook. Depending on the group’s eagerness, we may walk a small portion (0.3 miles) of the preserve’s trail. The walk will take place on mostly grass, natural dirt, and gravel trails prone to muddy conditions with recurring occasional obstacles including uneven terrain, roots, and holes. Dress for the weather. Restrooms and water fountains are not available onsite. Cell reception is regularly available. Loaner binoculars will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Ticks can be expected here. Long pants and insect repellent are recommended.

The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available in a lot. The location is accessible by public transit via the train - UP-NW @ Barrington
