COS in the Suburbs: Beginner Birders at Spring Valley

Time: 4:30pm - 6:30 pm

Join COS for an afternoon bird walk at Spring Valley, a natural area managed by the Schaumburg Park District. Start the week at this hotspot searching for migratory bird species such as warblers, flycatchers, and orioles. All ages and experience levels are welcome to attend. Loaner binoculars will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. This trip is designed to be a slow-paced, social bird outing. The total trip distance will be about 1 mile based on bird activity and target species.

Pre-registration is required. Please contact Sammy Cabindol (wildlifesammy@gmail.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.

Accessibility:

We will walk roughly 1 mile in total. Most of the trails are made of natural dirt that is prone to muddy conditions. Other parts of the trail are wooden boardwalks. Occasional trail obstacles include uneven dirt terrain and tree roots. Dress for the weather. 

Restrooms and water fountains are readily available inside the nature center building. Cell reception is regularly available. Loaner binoculars will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Long pants, a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent are recommended. Ticks are common in the area. Loaner binoculars will be available.

The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available in the parking lot and driving is recommended.

COS supports the decision of individual trip participants to wear masks.
