Beginner Bird Walk at Washington Park

This trip is specifically tailored for beginner and novice-level birders!

End the daylight hours with a COS bird walk at Washington Park. This 345-acre hotspot packs diverse habitats including woodland and wetland. We will walk roughly a roughly 1-mile loop around the park’s lagoons in search of Chicago’s wild wonders as the sun sets. Birders of all experience levels and ages are welcome to attend. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Accessibility:

This trip is designed to be a slow-paced, social bird walk to take the time and enjoy sunset scenery. Total trip distance is approximately 1 mile. Most of the trip will take place on mostly relatively flat asphalt, grass, and natural dirt terrain prone to muddy conditions with recurring occasional trail obstacles including root heave and holes. Dress for the weather and wear sensible shoes. 

Restrooms and water fountains are available inside the field house building. Cell reception is regularly available.

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a light jacket, a heavy coat, hat, and gloves.

The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free and metered parking at both parking lots and streets. Location is accessible by public transit via Buses 2, 3, 4, 15, 55, 59, 192. Red Line at Garfield or 63rd. Metra ME line at University of Chicago/59th St.
