Woodcock Walk - Air Station Prairie

Join COS for an evening hike to observe the whimsically wonderful mating displays of the American Woodcock. All ages and experience levels are welcome to attend. Dress for the weather and wear sensible shoes. Flashlights are permitted but not required. Loaner binoculars will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. This trip is designed to be a slow-paced, social bird walk to take the time and enjoy the wonders of nature. The total trip distance is about 0.5 miles. Most of the trip will take place on mostly relatively flat asphalt, grass, and natural dirt terrain prone to muddy conditions with recurring occasional trail obstacles including root heave and holes.

Pre-registration is required. Please contact Sammy Cabindol (wildlifesammy@gmail.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.

Accessibility:

Total trip distance is approximately 0.5 miles. Trail is unpaved, often muddy, and sometimes under water so sturdy, waterproof footwear is strongly recommended. Restrooms are unavailable. 

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes or boots for mud and wet trails that may have shallow water are recommended. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a light jacket or heavy coat, hat, and gloves. Loaner binoculars will be available.

The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Driving recommended. Free parking lot and street parking available. 4 minute walk from Glen./N. Glenview MD-N Metra station.
