Chicago Ornithological Society and the Chicago Park District are excited to join forces and host the first ever Winter Waterfowl Watch!
Winter in Chicago may seem cold and lifeless, but for birds, the windy city is a winter wonderland. Water birds in particular, fleeing frozen waters farther north, flock to Chicago's lakefront, harbors and rivers to spend the holidays and feast. Join us for a warm cup of bird friendly coffee as we go out in search of these festive winter birds ranging from from loons, to scoters, goldeneye, mergansers, coots, scaup, bufflehead, jaegers, and whatever else weird duck season can throw at us.
All are welcome to attend this free event. RSVP is not required but is greatly appreciated to help planning.
This is an indoor/outdoor event. The nature center will remain open for the duration for attendees to warm up, use bathrooms, and enjoy a warm beverage among fellow bird enthusiasts between forays outside.
All are welcome to arrive at any point during the event and stay for as much or as little as they'd like. All experience levels, ages, and backgrounds are welcome. Experts will be on hand to help identify birds and answer questions.
