Birders of all experience levels and ages are welcome to attend.
End the daylight hours with a COS bird walk at McKinley Park. This hotspot packs diverse habitats including savanna and wetland. We will walk roughly a roughly 1-mile loop around the park’s lagoons in search of Chicago’s wild wonders as the sun sets. Loaner binoculars will be available on a first-come-first-served basis.
Leaders: Sammy Cabindol
Pre-registration is required. Please contact Sammy Cabindol (wildlifesammy@gmail.com) at least 24 hours in advance if you cannot attend or with questions.
Accessibility:
Total trip distance is approximately 1 mile and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.
Restrooms are available at the field house.
Weather/Attire/Other:
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat, sunscreen, and possibly a light jacket. Loaner binoculars will be available.
The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Free parking is available at the field house parking lot. McKinley Park is accessible by public transit via the CTA Orange Line (35th/Archer station) and CTA bus (Pershing #39 and Western #49 Archer #62).
Respiratory Illness Precautions:
COS supports the decision of individual trip participants to wear masks.
