Join COS for a morning birding trip out to Crabtree Nature Center in Barrington. This destination is a favorite for many city birders who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle. The Forest Preserves of Cook County manage the property's prairies, woodlands, and wetlands that host 246 bird species throughout the year. We will walk roughly 2 miles of trails in search of migratory species including flycatchers, vireos, and warblers then end our time together inside the Nature Center building. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Accessibility:

Total trip distance is approximately 2 miles and will take place mostly on wide paved, crushed-gravel, or wood-chip trails that are relatively level with minimal incline. We may leave the trail at times to walk through the grass for a better view of the birds. Any recent rain may create muddy conditions.

Restrooms are available at the Nature Center building from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m..

Weather/Attire/Other:

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat and sunscreen, and a light jacket. Ticks can be expected here. Long pants and insect repellent are recommended. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Driving recommended. Free parking lot.
