31st Street Beach Moon Watch

  • 31st Street Beach United States (map)

Under the cover of darkness, thousands of birds migrate through Chicago. During this registered event, we invite you to Margaret Burroughs Beach (formerly 31st Street Beach) to watch the full moon as migrating birds fly past. This unique birding event is modeled on the way 19th century astronomers helped us better understand night migration. This is a fun opportunity to see some birds, and enjoy the moonlight along the lake with the company of other birders.

This event will include a large telescope and spotting scope stations, as well as provide binoculars to all registered participants.

Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Please bring bottled water. Dress for the weather. Based on the forecast, you may want to bring a hat and sunscreen and wear a light jacket. Loaner binoculars will be available.

Location and Transportation:
The exact meeting location will be emailed in advance to registrants. Parking lot metered parking is available.

Public Health:
Please bring a face mask with you. You may be asked to wear it as needed by the trip leader.
