Birds & Bytes: Birding with the Elements

When you imagine a perfect day of birding, you probably also imagine sunny skies, light winds and just generally the perfect weather. Birding in poor weather often may seem more a circumstance you deal with in your search for birds. But for some forms of bird watching, poor weather conditions are the ideal conditions and, when taken to extremes, can offer great birding rewards.

Join experts Ethan Gyllenhaal and Nathan Goldberg for the latest episode of Birds & Bytes where we dive into the world of poor weather birding. From tales of chasing hurricanes to reading wind patterns and fronts, this program will leave you ready to seek avian riders on the storm.

All are welcome to attend this free event but
RSVP is required.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

About our Speakers:

Ethan Gyllenhaal is an Oak Park, IL native who grew up birding the Chicago area, where he'd always try to get out on inclimate days for lakewatches. This passion brought him to the University of Rochester where he got degrees in Evolutionary Biology and Computer Science. He's now a Ph.D student at the University of New Mexico, where he studies how birds of South Pacific islands evolve and make new species.

Nathan Goldberg, a Chicago-native, has been involved with COS since the advent of his birding obsession. Having attended COS walks at a young age, he now sits on the Board of Directors and helps oversee the Fundraising Committee. A graduate from Cornell University in upstate New York, he now works for Red Hill Birding as a professional birding tour guide. When he's not travelling around the country showing clients birds, he's often hard at work building up various county and state lists - keeping an eye out for the next vagrant or storm waif to drop in.
