When quarantine was still a novelty for most of us, we held the first Socially Distant Big Day and it was a huge success. We had dozens of people submit sightings and amassed a list of 97 species. One month later, we’re now solidly in the prime Spring migration window, so let’s try it again!!
A reminder of the rules…
Beginning at 12:00 am and ending at 11:59 pm, Thursday 4/16. We're asking people to look out their window, wander your backyard and see what birds you can find. Go to the COS Facebook group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/chicagobirder/) and post the bird species and your location (city/state is fine). That's it! The only requirement is that you're in your house, balcony, or backyard. Bonus points if you can post a photo of the bird, blurry cell phone photos are very welcome. This is a global pandemic so this is a global big day; invite your friends from everywhere to join. (Note: we'll stick to central time, so if participating elsewhere, adjust accordingly.)
So go fill those feeders - we'll keep a live running tally throughout the day!!
