Big Marsh Big Sit

  • Big Marsh Park 11559 S Stony Island Ave Chicago, IL 60633 United States (map)

Join COS and the Chicago Park District for a Big Sit at Big Marsh Park! We’ll be staking out a count circle and letting the birds come to us. This time of year is a sweet spot of migration with outgoing sparrows and warblers mingled with incoming waterfowl and raptors. Can we crack 50 species? Maybe 60?

All are welcome to come and go throughout the day. Join us for an hour or two, or the whole day. No prior experience is required. Since we’re stationary, it can often feel colder than you’d expect. Please be sure to wear layers. If you have a lawn chair, bring it along.

RSVP is not required. However, if you do know when you’ll be joining us, please help us manage our group size and email Edward Warden with your expected arrival time: edwarhzan@gmail.com

Park in the gravel public parking lot and walk north on the gravel trail to reach the count circle.
