The Big Year: From Idea, Through Research to Book & Movie

  • Peggy Notebaert 2430 North Cannon Drive Chicago, IL, 60614 United States (map)

Join COS and meet Mark Obmascik, prize winning journalist, a birder, and author of The Big Year.

The Big Year was a book every birder had to read when it was published in 2004. It was a movie every birder had to see, and comment on, when it was released in 2011. Now it is part of every new birder’s must read book list once they have become interested enough in birding to start a life list.

You can meet The Big Year author, Mark Obmascik, and hear him share insights on how he came upon the idea of writing the book, learn about the research he undertook to tell this amazing story, and speak to how he took that story and created the book and helped craft the subsequent movie, The Big Year.

Join the Chicago Ornithological Society (COS) as we welcome Mark Obmascik, former Chicago native, to the Peggy Notebaert Museum on Thursday night, April 12th, at 7pm, for his program on the creation and writing of The Big Year. He will share stories about researching the story, and being part of the process that created the movie. He says most of the stories he will share, are true.

Afterward, join Mark, COS and Birds & Beers for the April 2018 Birds & Beers, which will follow his program at the Lakefront Restaurant at Fullerton and the lakefront, in the Theater on the Lake building complex.
