Friends of the Kankakee - Spring Bird and Butterfly Walk

View, listen and learn all about spring butterflies and migratory birds while exploring the refuge’s black oak savanna and sand flatwoods. Children six years and up, accompanied by an adult, are welcome.

Trails are mowed but uneven, and may beflooded after a heavy rain; dress accordingly (rubber boots or waterproof hiking boots recommended). Audubon Great Lakes will provide binoculars.

Meet at 9:00 AM at Refuge sign.

*Directions: From Kankakee, IL, take Route 17 east toward Momence. Route 17 joins Route 1 at a traffic light; turn right (south) on Route 1 to St. Anne, IL. At the 4-way stop in St. Anne, turn left (east) on Guertin St., which becomes 7000 S Rd. After 9 .4 miles, turn right (south) on 17000 E Rd, a gravel road. Continue 1 mile to the intersection with 8000 S Rd., and find parking along the road.

For the nearest restrooms, please visit the Iroquois County State Wildlife Refuge, IL or Willow Slough State Game Preserve, IN.  The nearest town is St. Anne, IL.
