Gov. J.B, Pritzker officially designates November 18 as Piping Plover Day

Gov. J.B. Pritzker has declared Monday, November 18, Piping Plover Day in honor of Monty and Rose! We are thrilled to have this birding community success celebrated by our state! View the Governor's Proclamation here. The Chicago Tribune also featured Piping Plover Day in Thursday's paper.

A slate of activities is set to celebrate the birds and the release of the Monty and Rose film. Get involved and share your support of Monty and Rose, endangered species and coastal ecosystems.

11/17 - Montrose Beach Cleanup - 9 a.m.

Plastics pose one of the greatest threats to our aquatic ecosystems. We'll spend time combing the beach for these items, which tend to accumulate along Lake Michigan at this time of year. Join us to celebrate Monty and Rose through hands-on volunteerism! Meet at the beach house.

11/18 - 9 a.m. Bird Walk at South Shore Nature Sanctuary

Celebrate Monty and Rose by exploring a prime birding locale on the south lakefront! November can be a great time to see migrants including sparrows, waterfowl and more. Leader: Judy Pollock of Chicago Audubon Society.

11/18 - 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Waukegan Beach Cleanup

Join volunteers in Lake County to clean up the beach near the site of Monty and Rose's first nest (in 2018). Sign the Plover Pledge and become a Plover Pal in partnership with Lake County Audubon Society!

11/18 - 4-6 p.m. Happy Hour - A Toast to Monty and Rose

All are welcome to join us for this fun event. At 4:30 p.m., we will toast the hatching of Monty and Rose's first chick, which took place at 4:30 p.m. on July 17 at Montrose Beach. Twenty-five percent of beer sales from 4-6 p.m. will benefit Great Lakes Piping Plover recovery efforts. Location: Spiteful Brewing, 2024 West Balmoral Avenue, Chicago. RSVP on Facebook
