Founded by professional ornithologists in December 1912, Chicago Ornithological Society promotes the appreciation and conservation of birds throughout the Chicago region.

We are a registered 501(3)(c) non-profit organization offering free educational programs, recreational bird watching opportunities, and habitat restoration projects.

We welcome anyone interested in birds — whether you are a beginner or an experienced birder, a photographer or a casual learner, an activist for conservation or restoration of bird habitat. We have many efforts to support and activities planned year-round.

COS currently has 16 seats on the board. Board members, officers, and committee chairs are elected at the annual members meeting each December. All committees are open to members and non-board volunteers. We are always looking to expanding our board to interested members of our community. Please contact us!
