Calumet Water Reclamation Plant – Sludge Pits

We have been approved by the fine folks at MWRD to tour the sludge pits on August 16. The trip is limited to the first 20 folks who complete the required forms and get them to Walter Marcisz. You must include a copy of a photo ID. To obtain the 2008 required forms, contact Walter Marcisz at wmarcisz [at] att [dot] net. As in the past, the forms must be hand delivered or mailed via the US Post Office. Email is not acceptable. The forms must be approved by MWRD one month in advance. Therefore, please get your forms to Walter by July 1st. Mail the forms to:

Please note that participants may bring binoculars and spotting scopes with them, but the MWRD will not allow cameras. We will observe shorebirds in the Lake Calumet Sewage Treatment Plant, and then visit other spots in the Lake Calumet area if time allows. Access to the sewage treatment plant is limited, so take advantage of this opportunity to bird one of the best spots in Cook County for shorebirds.
