Lakefront Gulls

Get in practice for the Gull Frolic. This is the prime time of the year to see a variety of gulls. We will meet at 8:00 a.m. at Montrose Harbor across from the Magic Hedge. We will travel from there to other lakefront locations. Dress for the weather and bring your walkie talkies.

Bartel Grasslands - Short Eared Owls and More

Winter is prime time to see Short-eared owls. They appear at dusk, but Northern Harriers put on a good show before that. Come on out and join Dick, who monitors Bartel practically daily.

Directions: From I-57, exit at Vollmer Rd and head west. Turn right at Central Ave, then left on Flossmoor Rd. Parking is at the model airplane field west of Central Ave. Bartel Grassland is directly across the street. Meet Dick at the parking area.

Morton Arboretum - Lisle

Another chance to learn about where to find birds at the Arb. We will be looking for winter specialties such as Crossbills, finches, nuthatches and owls. This is a combined DBC and COS trip. Meet at the main parking lot. There is a $9 charge for non -members to enter. Warm coffee and food will be available at the restaurant afterwards.

Directions: The Arboretum is located along IL-53, just north of I-88, in Lisle, IL.
