Come on out to this world class birding location. We will check the beach for shorebirds, scan the lake for ducks and passing waterfowl, and search the grasses and shrubs for warblers, sparrows and other fall migrants. If time permits, we will make our way to the Jarvis Bird Sanctuary as well.
Directions: Exit Lakeshore Drive at Montrose, east towards the lake, turn right at the bait shop and park along the harbor, near the signs for the Magic Hedge. We will meet just south of the Magic Hedge at the Montrose volunteer parking area.

Join Walter Marcisz for a pre-roast trip to the Lake Calumet area in search of wetland birds & migrants (including shorebirds if water levels are cooperative).
Scopes will be helpful for the trip, and sturdy boots are recommended.
Directions: Directions: Take I-94 to 130th Street. Exit eastbound on 130th and turn right just before the steel bridge into the drive for O’Brien Lock & Dam. Turn left after the railroad underpass and proceed to the parking lot.
Leader: The Gyllenhaals
Please join us for another episode in our Chicago’s Underbirded Parks Series. Our trip will be led by Eric Gyllenhaal and sons who have birded Columbus Park extensively. We will bird the woods and parkland around the lagoon for about an hour, then walk south along the boundary between the golf course and playing fields on the east side of the fencerow. If people want to keep going, we can walk around to the Austin woods and meadow area, which is often productive. We should expect a mix of year round residents, summer holdovers, and migrants -including warblers, sparrows, thrush and a hawk or two.
Directions: The entrance to the park is midway between Central and Austin on the south side of Jackson. Meet behind the Refectory, which is the building on the south side of Jackson, half way between Austin and Central, opposite where golfers check in. There is lots of parking.
